Even though many people do experience the health benefits of low carbohydrate diets, researchers claim that there are harmful side effects. Nutrients are classified as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. Essential nutrients, or those nutrients that must be obtained from a food source, include carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins (Worthington, 2004).
